YOUR STARTING POINT TOWARDS ALL THE WONDERS OF THE MOROCCAN SAHARA Bonjour amis voyageurs, Vous n'êtes pas arrivés ici par hasard... Our strong points Quality over quantity ! Demandez votre devis personnalisé Direct pick-up at your hotel on request Book now, pay later Free cancellation cancel up to 24 hours in advance for a full refund Our commitment : authentic and sustainable tourism Voyager autrement et prendre le temps... It is the largest oasis city at the gates of the desert, in the Souss-Massa-Drâa region, the scene of inspiration for many Hollywood films for the quality of its light and its sunshine as well as for its magnificent colored adobe kasbahs ocher. It has seen its economic growth increase considerably in recent years with the largest solar energy complex in the world, called Noor. Visit of the Atlas Studio: discover behind the scenes of the cinema in this maze of scenes which have been specially adapted for many Hollywood films shot in Ouarzazate, and have fun finding cult replicas of well-known films (Mission Cléopâtre, the Mummy, Gladiator...). Installation at the end of the afternoon in an ecolodge in Ouarzazate under a pretty Berber tent and well-deserved relaxation by the superb swimming pool. A very beautiful green garden planted with pomegranate trees, palm trees and olive trees will bring you a pleasant touch of freshness. You will appreciate the calm and serenity of this place to enjoy a good traditional meal and rest from the journey of the day. Lunch break in the palm grove of Skoura which shelters remarkable kasbahs with undeniable picturesque charm. Departure for the magnificent road of 1,000 kasbahs on the south-eastern slope of the High Atlas, in the Dadès valley commonly called the valley of roses to Kalaât M'Gouna, where the traditional festival in honor of with Damask rose declined in all its guises (floral water, soaps, essential oil...). It is an invitation to daydream, in enchanting landscapes adorned with verdant gardens, delicately scented rose gardens, brightly colored oleanders and flowering almond trees in spring. Typical Berber dinner and night in a superb kasbah built on a rocky outcrop, dominating, like a sentinel, the entire Dades valley. You will enjoy the breathtaking view over a good glass of tea at sunset. Cool picnic in one of the most striking natural sites in the country, the Todgha Gorge, near Tinghir where water flows all year round. You will take the full measure of the incredible massive walls of the canyon, with its gaping opening on the source "with sacred fish." We will take the road again by the Tizi N'Tikit pass to arrive in a striking mineral setting of volcanic rocks of rare beauty, in the Jbel Saghro mountains culminating at 2,712 m in altitude and offering an unobstructed view of the Dades and Drâa valleys. Dinner and night in a comfortable typical southern riad, with swimming pool, in the palm grove of Zagora . Take advantage of a digestive walk to stroll through this pretty Berber-speaking city which comes alive, at nightfall, with its colorful stalls and attractive cafes where men meet every evening to chat in the cool, around a small coffee in the milk or in front of a football match, while waiting for the usually late dinner hour. Gorges Todgha Maroc.jpg Hospitalité berbère légendaire Maroc insolite.jpg Zagora.jpg Gorges Todgha Maroc.jpg 1/15 DAY 4: MEET THE NOMADS Departure for the desert of M'Hamid El Ghizlane . Along the way, you will stop at Tamegroute , a village renowned for its Koranic library and its pottery in incredible shades of green made with ancestral techniques that have not changed. And then here we are... landscapes of extreme beauty bathed in a strange light, that's the charm of the desert... Hush, let yourself be guided, there's nothing more to say, just to contemplate and enjoy these moments out of time! Picnic break in the freshness of the Oum-Lâalag oasis. Resumption of the track to arrive just in time before sunset on Erg Chegaga. It is the most imposing dune massif in the country, the spectacle is absolutely magical and not to be missed under any circumstances! Installation under your tent in a nomadic camp. A camel ride will allow you to discover this protected site effortlessly. Dinner and magical evening under the stars , to the rhythm of the djembes and the chants Amazighs, which indisputably convey the identity of the names, calling themselves "free men or noble men." Un International Festival of Nomads is organized every year in M'Hamid (formerly Taragalte) in March and October. DAY 5: IN THE COOLNESS OF THE DRÂA OASIS Departure in the morning to join the erg Lihoudi and enjoy the last moments in the desert. Free rest until lunch. Then we will resume the path of civilization with an escapade through the remote villages at the gates of the desert, in the large palm grove of Ktawa. It is populated by Berber ethnic groups of various origins, due to a mixing of populations at the time of the caravans of goods which transited between the Sahara and the north of Morocco. Their way of life, however, is the same and has remained unchanged for generations. They live in close communion with nature, their daily life being punctuated by the work of the land, the maintenance of the irrigation canals of the oases and the picking of dates. It is a simple and peaceful life, punctuated by traditional festivals which are very important in their culture. Our path will continue along the oasis of the Draa Valley which stretches majestically between Agdz and M'Hamid , along the river which bears the same name. True national treasures classified as a UNESCO biosphere reserve , these palm groves are home to a rich biodiversity, contribute to the fight against desertification and provide a wide variety of agricultural products. Real source of life for the inhabitants of the region, they are at the origin of a social, economic and cultural organization which constitutes a unique ancestral heritage. Dinner and night in an authentic kasbah run by a caïd (former tribal chief) in Tamnougalte. It is a real jewel in the heart of the oasis, difficult not to get lost in this maze of corridors which conceals handicrafts testifying to the way of life of the Berbers in the past and even today. Oasis du Drâa C'est l'heure du thé.jpg Authentique kasbah Tamnougalte Maroc.jpg Oasis du Drâa 1/21 DAY 6: GET HIGH AT TIZI N'TEST COL In the early morning the mist dissipates over the oasis to give way to a magical spectacle at the time of the rising sun, which you will have the pleasure of contemplating in front of a succulent breakfast decorated with baghirs (called pancakes with a thousand holes). We will start the day by crossing Agdz overlooked by le Mont Kissane, the emblematic mountain of this pretty town. Then visit Tazenakht, the capital of Berber carpets which are still woven by hand using traditional methods. Their bright and vibrant colors are obtained thanks to the quality of wool and natural dyes. Lunch in Taliouine , the capital of saffron. This precious spice, called red gold, comes from the stigmas of crocus flowers and is renowned for its quality throughout the world. This will be an opportunity to taste a delicious tagine flavored with saffron. In autumn, you can admire the fields of crocuses which are adorned with their most beautiful purple dress before the harvest. Then we will gain height on the steep roads of the High Atlas to finish our ascent to the Tizi N'Test pass at 2,100 m. Here, there is only one refuge with no electricity, powered by solar panels, and stunning views when the sky is clear. The innkeeper will concoct a good Berber omelet in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. You will spend a cool and peaceful night, unless you are disturbed by a strange protected animal, the mouflon, passing through the oak woods around the refuge.

◄ Back Next ► PREPARING YOUR DESERT TREK WELL Bien préparer son trek SAHARA CLIMATE - WHEN TO GO TO THE DESERT? CLIMATE AND SEASONS IN THE MOROCCAN DESERT The sun shines almost all year round in M'Hamid El Ghizlane (rains are rare but can be violent). The temperature differences between day and night are very significant, especially between the months of October to March. The days can be hot (up to 50° and even more!) and the nights very cold (0°). You should adapt your travel bag according to the season. At certain times, the wind blows strong in the desert, which can cause sand tornadoes. The landscapes change and become almost unreal for a few hours. WHEN TO GO TO THE DESERT? It is possible to go all year round in the desert! However, the ideal period for a stay in the desert is located between the months of October and May. The months of December and January are particularly cold at night (temperature close to 0°) and the month of May begins to be very hot. The circuits will be adapted according to the heat, with a departure at dawn if necessary, and regular stops, especially at the hottest hours, if possible in the shade of a tamarisk or a palm tree near an oasis. Climat THE HIKING BAG OF A "GOOD TREKKER" When you're lost in the middle of the desert, you might as well have a hiking bag that doesn't weigh too much but still contains the essentials to live independently for a few days. Take inspiration from our exhaustive list below to choose your business and opt for a waterproof canvas bag adapted to your size, neither too big nor too small, with padded straps so as not to injure yourself while walking. hat with a wide brim in white or light canvas, or even better, a scarf that you can get for a few dirhams on a souk before your departure, which protects very well from the sun and the wind... This is "the accessory essential" in the desert that adorns all the heads of nomads! closed and rather flexible walking shoes (tennis, jogger or paddling shoes) in canvas or leather, avoid plastic which can cause fungal infections loose, lightweight cotton clothes to fold into plastic bags to protect them from sand. Avoid t-shirts with straps close to the body that make you sweat and favor sleeves to better protect you from the sun. Plan 1 or 2 spare clothes in addition to the number of days planned so as not to remain wet in the event of heavy perspiration or rain, although the 2nd option is unlikely! Otherwise, it is to fall ill suddenly safe ! small fleece jacket (for often chilly nights), or even a pair of gloves for the more chilly lightweight windbreaker with hood sunglasses filtering ultraviolet rays (prefer glacier-style glasses to protect you from sandstorms just in case!) insulated water bottle dry soap to wash yourself (water is a treasure to be consumed sparingly in the desert!) dental floss/toothpicks (to be preferred over toothbrushes to save water) ultra-compact microfiber towel to dry yourself or for relaxation breaks headlamp if you have prescription glasses that you are dependent on, bring two pairs sanitary napkins/tampons sun protection maximum index and non-greasy if possible (product rather not recommended because sticks in contact with the sand but necessary if you have fragile skin) lip stick No lotions, alcoholic toilet waters (dry out the skin, can attract insects). In general, you should avoid all cosmetics, make-up, beauty creams, some do not mix well with the sun, which can lead to allergies or serious burns. No contact lenses (major risk of serious damage to the cornea). and of course the sleeping bag or duvet (thermal index - 10° sufficient) and an insulated groundsheet, it's better! Sac du trekkeur THE "TREK SPECIAL" FIRST AID KIT Bring something to deal with the little sores that can spoil your adventure! Because there is no doctor here of course, and even if we can alert the emergency services in the event of a serious problem and bring you back to town to go home, it would be a shame to be bothered by a terrible headache or a bad toothache. ! SMALL MEDICAL EQUIPMENT: small scissors tweezers (or splinter) safety pins disposable tissues packs of compresses (2x5) compression band (in case of sprain) gauze bandage (in case of wound or burn) adhesive tape (such as SPARADRAP®) self-adhesive dressings (TRICOSTERIL® type) dressings to relieve any irritation and blisters on the feet due to friction or pressure from shoes (COMPEED® or URGO® type) skin antiseptic (type BETADINE® yellow small bottle, HEXOMEDINE®, BISEPTINE® spray) light eye antiseptic (BIOCIDAN® type eye drops) and physiological tears (risk of drying of the ocular mucous membranes) anti-irritant ointment (such as SENOPHILE®, MITOSYL® or liniment), particularly useful on an anal margin irritated by diarrhea blanket salt tablets to prevent dehydration disinfection of drinking water (MICROPUR® type: 1 tablet per liter of water, wait one hour before consuming) mosquito coils YOUR COMFORT MEDICINES: a usual analgesic: paracetamol (DOLIPRANE®, DAFALGAN®, etc.). We will have a lunch break at ksar Aït Ben Haddou , near Ouarzazate , the largest oasis city at the gates of the desert. Aït Ben Haddou is a beautifully preserved fortified village listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is especially famous for having also served as a backdrop in many films (Lawrence of Arabia, Gladiator...). Then we will take the road of the 1000 kasbahs in the direction of the rose valley to Kalaât M'Gouna where the traditional festival in honor of the Damascus rose takes place every year in May, declined under all its seams (floral water, soaps, essential oil...). You will finally put down your suitcases for two nights in a very pretty traditional kasbah which overlooks the entire Dades Valley , like a proud sentinel from the top of its rocky peak. Dinner on site. DAY 2: POETRY IN THE VALLEY OF ROSES Today, we have reserved a beautiful relaxing day in the middle of nature for you. First of all, a gentle awakening at the desired time, with breakfast on the terrace which offers a breathtaking panorama over the Dades Valley. Then we will go for a walk in this bucolic region of Drâa-Tafilalet which is an invitation to poetry in enchanting landscapes adorned with green gardens, delicately scented rose gardens, brightly colored oleanders and almond trees which conceal magnificent traditional kasbahs where their inhabitants live mainly from agriculture and crafts. After crossing Boulmane-Dadès, we will take to the heights on the steep roads of the Dadès gorges , where the dwellings merge skilfully with the rock, and the wadi (river) Dadès unrolls peacefully from the high limestone plateaus. Finally, we will reach one of the most striking natural sites in the country, the Todgha Gorge near Tinghir where water flows all year round. You will take the full measure of the massive walls of the canyon with its gaping opening on the source "with sacred fish." Lunch break to take full advantage of the place, or in a small neighboring village, it's up to you! Return to Kelâat M'Gouna in the middle of the afternoon to leave the field free for you. Take the opportunity to stroll through the shops of the city which are full of cosmetic products of all kinds. You will find rose essential oil of excellent quality. Return to the hostel at the end of the afternoon. Diner and night at the place. Panorama vallée Dadès.jpg Hôtel kasbah Kelaat MGouna.jpg Piton rocheux vallée Dadès.jpg Panorama vallée Dadès.jpg DAY 3: BETWEEN VOLCANIC ROCKS AND GREEN OASIS A departure at 9:00 for the ascent of the Jbel Saghro via the Tizi N'Tikit pass culminating at an altitude of 2,712 m. Here it's a western atmosphere in a striking mineral setting of volcanic rocks of rare beauty , offering an unobstructed view of the Dades and Drâa valleys. We will meet Berber peasants from theAit Atta tribe who came to find refuge in these mountains after being driven out of the Draa Valley at the time of the Arab invasions. Their presence gives a unique soul to this landscape with its very harsh climate in winter. At the end of the morning, we will reach part of the Draa Valley which is home to the largest oases in the kingdom . Here, you are transported to another time, the pace is slow and punctuated by the date harvest. The peasants maintain the irrigation canals every day while the women grind the henna on stone millstones and cook the bread pancakes in a wood-fired oven. Lunch in a very good typical restaurant under the palm trees of the valley. Then resume the route, towards the desert of M'Hamid. Along the way, a short break at Tamegroute for those who want to hunt for the most beautiful Berber pottery whose secular know-how remains unequaled with their beautiful enamel in shades of green. And then the sand finally invites itself into the landscape, a few more kilometers of blackish rocks and we will take the first tracks to arrive in a nomadic camp on erg Lihoudi at the foot of Jbel Bani (around 4:00 p.m. in winter and 5:00 p.m. in spring/summer/autumn). Camel ride to discover the first dunes at sunset. Dinner under the stars with nomadic songs around the campfire . Let yourself be transported by these moments of pure happiness that you will not find anywhere else... Jbel Saghro.jpg Tribu Aït Atta.jpg Leçon de djembé.jpg Jbel Saghro.jpg DAY 4: MAGIC ON THE DUNES OF CHEGAGA The sun rises over the dunes and you will have breakfast in front of a panorama of extreme beauty bathed in a strange light, that's the charm of the desert. Hush, there is nothing more to say, let yourself be carried away by these precious moments out of time and conducive to daydreaming. But if you want to feel all the power and the special atmosphere of the great Sahara, you have to sink into its belly, so on the way for 4 hours of track in 4x4, direction the most imposing dune massif of the country, the erg Chegaga which is only accessible on foot or by all-terrain vehicle. Along the way, lunch break in the shade of the Oum-Lâalag sacred oasis , an essential destination for finding water... this treasure so precious in these arid lands. We will then resume the track for a good two hours to arrive quietly before sunset. Installation under your tent in a traditional bivouac. Now it's up to you, it's your magic moment! Go running on the highest dunes in the kingdom and marvel at the warm colors offered by the sun when it rubs against the horizon. It is a breathtaking spectacle! The candles now illuminate the camp plunged into the night that settles and their twinkling lights give the change with the stars. All that remains is to share a delicious tajine with the nomads and listen to them hum their Amazigh songs around the campfire.... No, you are not dreaming, here you will live well a magical evening worthy of the fabulous tales of Scheherazade. DAY 5: FROM THE CARPETS OF TAZNAKHT TO THE SOUKS OF MARRAKECH Breakfast in the sun to take advantage of the last moments of calm before finding the tumult of the red city at the end of the afternoon. Departure at 9:00 for Foum Zguid by the old Paris-Dakar track for about 3 hours. It crosses over vast rocky expanses left by Lake Iriki , once a privileged place for southern gazelles before it has now dried up. It is a reserve that stands between the Drâa River and the southern foothills of the Anti-Atlas, near the Algerian border and conducive to the wintering of many migratory birds. These last privileged moments in the desert will perhaps make you want to talk with your guide about this very different world where everything seems extraordinary in its simplicity and serenity. Lunch break in this pretty Berber-speaking town then resumption of the route towards Taznakht , capital of the artisanal production of Berber carpets where we will stop for a moment to visit the cooperatives of women weavers. Resumption of the itinerary by the Atlas Mountains and arrival in Marrakech around 19:00 then installation in the hotel of your choice. Free transfer service to the airport the next day (on request and subject to availability). Place Jama El Fnaâ.jpg Excursion lac Iriki désert Mhamid.jpg Souk des tapis Marrakech.jpg Place Jama El Fnaâ.jpg 1 DAY CAMEL TREK EXTENSION + WILD BIVOUAC + 70€/person We offer you this extension which is often requested to taste the pleasures of a camel trek over a day accompanied by a wild bivouac, just to discover the desert differently, in total communion with the elements which surround you!! This trek will begin at the camp on Erg Lihoudi, the day after the 3rd day of the program. Go on the trail, follow the guide at your own pace and take the opportunity to recharge your batteries in the heart of nature. You will certainly come across some wandering nomads on the way to find water and food for their livestock and even a handful of beekeepers who will surely offer you acacia honey. The power of resilience and the wisdom in the face of adversity of these desert men have always fascinated the Western world. An incredible spirit of mutual aid, humility and communion drives them, from which they draw their strength to adapt to the hostile climate here. We will pitch the tents for the night in the heart of the dunes and if you are motivated, you can help your guide to prepare the meal on the wood fire. These are special moments to share together and moments of conviviality engraved forever in your memories. The next morning we will come pick you up on site in a 4x4 at 9:30 to drive us into the depths of the Sahara to Chegaga, as indicated on the program for the 4th day. This formula is made for you! Forget your worries and have fun like children in the sand, it's so good to laugh out loud and the legendary hospitality of the nomads on site will help you let go. And if you have the impression that everything is the same in the desert, it is only an illusion... each place is unique and enchanting. Gaze at the horizon, feel the beneficial energy that envelops you little by little and let yourself be transported... This escapade is the ideal formula for taking the time to appreciate these moments of pure happiness. You will put your suitcases on a first nomadic camp installed on Erg Lihoudi at the foot of Jebel Bani in the desert of M'Hamid. On your arrival, the custom is to welcome you with a delicious glass of tea, a beverage that all the peoples of the Maghreb consume all day long because it voluntarily makes the body sweat to help it evacuate heat. When night falls, you can share your meal with the nomads if you wish, and you will certainly be surprised to taste an elaborate preparation that comes out of nowhere! Bedouins usually eat light because the heat does not facilitate digestion. They prefer foods rich in fiber and containing water such as vegetables or soup, and drink milk almost with every meal. The evening will continue with music around a warm campfire (depending on the season), with nomadic songs that convey their identity of which they are so proud. This is a good time for discussion and especially for a real reconnection with oneself. The next day, a beautiful 4x4 excursion awaits you in the depths of the Sahara. We will picnic in the shade of a beautiful oasis and you can have fun doing somersaults on the dunes.
